How do I get Started?

You can get started by clicking the "Book Now" button and choose a time that works for you. Dr. Wright will contact you to confirm your appointment and provide you with important paperwork to complete.
Therapy is available to Hawaiʻi residents only (due to licensure laws) for teens ages 15+ and adults.

What should I expect in my first session?

Your first session is a calm and supportive conversation to get to know you. We’ll talk about what brought you in, what your goals are, and any concerns you might have about therapy. There’s no pressure to share everything at once—you set the pace. This is also a time for you to ask any questions you want so you can feel confident that what is offered is the right fit for your needs.

What are follow up sessions like?

Follow‑up sessions focus on:

  • Checking in on how you’ve been doing e.g. successes, new challenges

  • Discuss your experience with the homework assigned from the previous session

  • Learning and practicing new tools and skills

  • Talking through challenges and concerns

  • Assess and adjust goals as needed

  • Noticing and celebrating progress, even small steps

Sessions stay steady, supportive, and tailored to your needs.

What is Telehealth?

Telehealth allows you to receive health care—including mental‑health support—through secure video or phone instead of going into an office.
The U.S. Health Resources & Services Administration defines telehealth as the use of electronic and telecommunication technologies to deliver long‑distance clinical care and related services.
The American Medical Association adds that telehealth involves two‑way, real‑time communication between a client and a provider using secure audio and visual technology.

What do I need for Telehealth?

You only need:

  • A phone, tablet, or computer

  • Stable internet connection

  • A private, comfortable space

  • Your secure video link (sent after scheduling)

Is Telehealth private and secure?

Yes. Sessions take place through HIPAA‑compliant video platforms designed to protect your privacy.
Just choose a quiet, private space on your end to keep your session comfortable and confidential.

How often will we meet?

Most people start with weekly or biweekly sessions.
Frequency depends on your goals, schedule, and needs, and can be adjusted.

How long are the sessions?

Standard sessions are 55 minutes.
Occasionally, shorter or longer sessions may be arranged depending on your needs or insurance.

What if I'm not sure if therapy is right for me?

Do parents join  sessions with their teen?

For teens 15 and older, sessions are usually one‑on‑one so they can speak freely and feel supported. At times, it can be helpful for parents or caregivers to join part of a session, especially in the beginning, to share concerns, ask questions, or support the treatment plan. Any parent involvement will be discussed ahead of time to make sure it feels helpful for everyone.

What is treatment modality?

A treatment modality is the style or method of therapy a psychologist uses to help clients. Examples include approaches that focus on thoughts, emotions, behaviors, or body‑based responses to stress. No one-size-fits-all method works for everyone, so the style used in your sessions is chosen based on your needs, comfort, and goals.

Do I need to live in Hawai'i?

Yes, you must have a physical address in Hawai'i while receiving treatment.

What if i feel like it's not a good fit?

It’s completely okay if you feel like the fit isn’t right after starting sessions. Feeling comfortable with your provider is very important for progress. If something doesn’t feel helpful, we can talk about it, adjust the approach, or explore other options. You will never be stuck - the goal is for you to get the support that feels right for you.
